We welcome you to the Peninsula Bushwalking Club Inc. and hope your time with us will be both interesting and rewarding. The Club sees its role in the community as the promotion of the pleasures of bushwalking, both through our activities and the sharing of experiences with other members.
This site has been prepared to answer prospective member’s questions about the Club’s operations and walking with the Club.
The Peninsula Bushwalking Club Inc. operates through a committee of nine members elected at the Annual General Meeting, which is held on the first Tuesday in March. Their names and contact phone numbers can be found in our newsletter, Boots ‘N’ All.
Both the Walk’s Co-ordinator and the Social Secretary are assisted by volunteers, and our other valued volunteer is the Supper Co-ordinator who calls on members, at least once a year, to supply a plate for the supper table.
Our Club is affiliated with VicWalk (the Federation of Victorian Bushwalking Clubs).
This enables us to participate in federation walks and other activities organised by the Federation and we regularly receive their newsletter, their minutes of their meetings and those of the Conservation Committee and the Search and Rescue Committee. We also receive newsletters from several other Bushwalking Clubs.
The Club’s activities focus around walks in Victoria’s bushland, although not exclusively so. Generally speaking, our walk’s calendar provides a day walk each weekend and regular overnight walks.
Other interests are also catered for: bike rides, canoeing, horse riding, skiing snow camping and much more. At times during the year extended walks are included in the calendar. Walks have been organised both interstate (Tasmania, New South Wales and Queensland) and overseas (New Zealand, Nepal and Fiji).
Opportunities are provided for training in and enhancement of bushwalking knowledge, navigation and leadership skills.
A variety of social occasions are included in the calendar every year – relaxing fun events provided by the social committee, and some of these events have become honoured traditions.
Our photo librarian keeps an ever growing history of the Club’s walks for everyone’s enjoyment (wonderful fun, reminiscing!). All contributions are gratefully received. The albums are available at meetings for everyone to browse through.
The Federation’s Search and Rescue Group operates within the Club and members are encouraged to join this.
Boots ‘N’ All
Boots ‘N’ All is the Club’s monthly publication, available to all members at each meeting. In it you will find a calendar of walks scheduled for the coming months, along with leader’s names and their contact numbers, comments on future walks, items of news, information about social activities and write ups of recently completed activities. Always a most entertaining read as all members are encouraged to contribute a write up of a walk they participated in.
The Club meets on the first Tuesday of the month, except in January when there is no meeting, and in November when we meet on the second Tuesday of the month. The meetings are held at Mount Martha Community House on the corner of the Esplanade and Dominion Road, enter from Dominion Road. The meetings commence at 8.00 p.m. At each meeting we discuss the walks that will be held the following month and hear from the walk’s leaders. There is frequently a guest speaker each month.
Visitors are welcome to attend meetings and to join our walks and social events. There is a fee of $3.00 per walk for all visitors. Visitors/Members are encouraged to have their own Ambulance transport cover.
Before applying for full membership prospective members are required to attend three walks from the club’s walk’s programme. A membership application form will then have to be filled in and submitted to the committee for vetting. The Club’s committee and the leaders of the walks in which you have participated will assess this form.
